Melvin P Mathew ("we," "our," or "us") operates the SugarSpoon mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our App.
By using SugarSpoon, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
Information We Collect
Images you scan: When you use the scan feature, the photo you take or select is sent to our servers for processing. The image is analyzed by an AI service (OpenAI) to extract nutritional information. We do not permanently store the images you scan on our servers. Images are processed in real time and discarded after analysis.
Scan results: Your scan history (product names, sugar content, and thumbnail images) is stored locally on your device using on-device storage. This data is not sent to or stored on our servers.
Subscription information: If you subscribe to SugarSpoon Pro, payment processing is handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We do not collect or store your credit card number, billing address, or other payment details. We receive only confirmation of your subscription status through RevenueCat, our subscription management provider.
Device information: We may collect basic device information such as device type and operating system version to ensure app compatibility and improve performance.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide the core scanning functionality by sending your photos to our AI analysis service
- To manage your subscription status and unlock Pro features
- To improve the accuracy and performance of our scanning service
- To send you optional push notifications (such as trial reminders), which you can disable at any time
Camera and Photo Access
SugarSpoon requests access to your device camera and photo library solely for the purpose of scanning nutrition labels. Camera access is used to take photos of food labels. Photo library access allows you to select existing images for scanning. You can revoke these permissions at any time through your device settings.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- OpenAI: Processes scanned images to extract sugar and nutritional content. Images are sent securely and processed according to OpenAI's Privacy Policy.
- RevenueCat: Manages subscription status and in-app purchases. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
- Apple / Google: Handles payment processing for subscriptions through their respective app stores.
Data Storage and Security
Your scan history and preferences are stored locally on your device. We do not maintain user accounts or store personal data on our servers. Images sent for analysis are transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and are not retained after processing.
Children's Privacy
SugarSpoon is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
Your Rights
Since your data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it. You can delete your scan history at any time by clearing the app's data or uninstalling the app. For subscription management, you can cancel or modify your subscription through the App Store or Google Play.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy within the App. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
